#4 - Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy uses essential oils and other aromatic compounds to alter a person’s mood, health, mind or cognitive function. As well as using the oils for massage they can also be used in baths, air freshening, compresses, hair products and many other forms.

Aromatherapy is not a modern phenomenon. It dates back to before recorded history! There is a long and colorful history leading from those early days to our modern world - where we can now simply buy essential oils at the supermarket!

In the 1920's, French chemist Rene Maurice Gattefosse burned his hand during an experiment, and soaked it in lavender because he didn't have anything else handy. He was surprised at how quickly the wound healed, and began to research other herbs. He was the person who coined the term "aromatherapy."
