Oceanarium, Bournemouth, to introduce its’ first-ever mammal display
The award-winning Oceanarium in Bournemouth is set to introduce its’ first-ever mammal display this spring. A pair of Oriental small clawed otters will take residency in a brand new, luxurious enclosure which will offer stunning seafront views.
The unveiling of the display will follow an investment of more than £150,000 to create this brand new experience for visitors. The semi-aquatic mammals will be the stars of the new enclosure, Otter Oasis, naturally themed and custom built to provide the otters with a habitat that includes a mixture of grass, bamboo, oriental shrubs, soil, pebbles and sand. The lush bamboo forest will house small waterfalls and flowing streams as well as three large south-facing floor-to-ceiling windows providing natural daylight and a sea breeze for the otters to bask in. The display will also include background interpretation on otter species worldwide in addition to information about the current ‘near threatened’ status of UK otters.
